Anita Michelle Peaks, age 62, of Columbus, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on May 6, 2024, at the Ohio State Hospice Facility. She was born on January 20, 1962, in Columbus, Ohio, to Cary Leonard and Helen Marie Peaks.

Anita graduated from Central High School in June 1980, receiving an award from the City of Columbus for thirteen years of perfect attendance, getting recognition from the Columbus Dispatch. Anita retired from The Department of Taxation on October 31, 2014 where she worked for 30 years.

When she was able, she started attending Greater Christ Temple (GCT) under the pastorate of Bishop Wayne Moore, Sr. She wanted to join GCT, but as her health declined, she wasn’t able to. Bishop and Lady Moore visited her in the hospital on Saturday, April 27, and when he found out that was her intention, he extended the right hand of fellowship and welcomed her to the GCT family.

Prior to joining Greater Christ Temple, she was a faithful member of New Generation under the pastorate of Pastor Maurice Jackson. Anita grew up and got her Christian foundation at Ebenezer Baptist Church under the late pastorate of Rev L.C. Brown Sr. Anita accepted Christ on January 20, 1997. She was not afraid to share Christ with anyone she met. Whenever she was at the hospital she would witness to doctors, nurses, and custodian workers. She would always tell them that she wanted to see them in heaven one day.

Anita is predeceased by her father, Cary L. Peaks; maternal grandparents, James and Eula Lee Patrick; paternal grandparents, Tyree and Mary Peaks; one brother, Keith Logan; three sisters, Angela Peaks, Zelda Griffin, and Doris Redd; one brother-in-law; William Redd, II.

Praying for the family of Anita (our neighbor). Weeping May Endure For A Night, But JOY Does Come In The Morning. May you all be comforted during your time of bereavement.

Anita and I had a great time during her last few years on this side of the earth we have laugh together and we have cried together, and we praised God together. Anita was truly a saint of God. She wanted everybody to be saved and she shared her lifetime story with those that she witnesses too. She called me her spiritual mother because we shared the word of God together. When she was in doubt of something she would call me, and I would always say what the word said about the situation. She would start laughing and say Mother Sherman the battle is not mind it does belong to the Lord. and we will go to the scripture and let the word of God tale the truth. To family you have my condolence of your loss, but this one thing Anita is where she wanted to be. She fought a good fight of faith, and she didn’t let go. She will be miss but her spirit will live on through us. Her last word would be I love you. Anita will always want to celebrate in memory of the Lord broken body shed Blood. Regardless of if she was in the hospital, she will say don’t forget to bring me the Lord Supper,
so, her sister and other family members we shared her last supper on May 5, 2024. Now Rest! I love You but God love you more and I will miss you,
    Minister Shirley Sherman

  17. Hugh Williams

I met Anita when we worked for Ohio Taxation. She was very attractive with her braids, earrings and gold dental work. She had a wonderful smile and laugh.
The most attractive part was her love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She told everyone about the Lord and wanted us to have a personal relationship. I’m forever grateful for her love towards me and everybody she came in contact.
To the family. She is no longer in pain. Cherish fond memories. Find comfort in family and friends. Also “the LORD is close to the brokenhearted” (Psalm 34:18). RIP Anita

  26. MARCUS PEAKS SR.

    My Auntie…
I’m going to miss your physical presence, our conversations, your greetings walking in and saying “Heyyyyyy, how you?”, with your smile immediately followed with a hug!! I’m going to miss playfully teasing you about your fish nets and you telling me, “Marcus you are a trip”..you always told me “Be nice, and watch your mouth”, but you always listened and let us be “US” without judgement!!! you always was my cheerleader!!!! All in all I know you was a strong woman who stood firm in your Foundation & belief!!! You loved unconditionally!!!! Even though we won’t be graced with you physical presence, I know the END = (Energy Never Dies) is not the end because I overstand the supernatural essence that drives our fleshly vehicles (BODY)!! I have our memories that will always be with me!!! When you called me to vent , I told you many times that you was a Queen/Goddess and always believe in YOU and the Power of your existence, and never look outside yourself for validation from Anybody but YOU!! YOU poured into us, so it’s only right to pour back into you!!! Your Nine Ether presence will always be uplifting and surrounding us all!!! You was such a warrior and I whispered in your ear at the hospital and reminded you it’s about you and don’t worry about anything but yourself cause it’s about you, and if you ready to just transition into your (“true self”)supernatural state ….it’s ok and don’t worry about Carissa, you raised her to be strong and she has a loving family and we got her!! We all love you Aunty!!!

To all Thanks for your love & support as we celebrated an angel!!!

  27. Beverly A Joiner

To Carissa and the family of Anita Peaks, I express my deepest condolences to you. I met Anita at NG, and she was a student at Central High School and found out that she was Carissa’s Mother. I knew Carissa as a student at East High School. I will say that Anita was a sweet soul. I knew I missed her from church but didn’t know the circumstances. She was a great person and I know that she loved the Lord. You could tell. She could really play the bongo drums, ( I think that was the name) rarely missed church services. Carissa, am so sorry for your loss, but keep the Faith and stay strong in the Lord. My prayers will continue for you and your family.

Leave Your Condolence
