John Travis Church, was born on March 1,1961, in Columbus Ohio. John was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the age of 62. John accepted Christ at the Temple of Faith Church of God in Christ, where he was baptized, under the leadership of Bishop Roger J. Hairston Sr.

John attended Mifflin High School, skilled in his craft, possessing a high school diploma. John gifted the culinary world with his talents, from Chef to Sous-Chef; this gift within him truly opened many doors of opportunity. John had the prestigious honor of cooking for the mayor to becoming an excellent teacher in the food industry.

Upon his passing, John was a Culinary Instructor for Cameron Mitchell at Mitchell Hall-Columbus State University. John was a Chef at Ohio Dominican University and COSI. John also led one of the busiest dining halls as Head Chef at The Ohio State University.

John had a sense of humor, quite the prankster, always had a joke to share or even a rose just to help make someone smile. He always thought of others and made a point of serving the homeless during the holidays. John treasured each of the many friendships, too many to name- from childhood to those he met throughout his culinary career.

John is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Wallace and Francis Church; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Myrtice Wooden; parents, Garland Sr. and Travis Church.

John leaves to cherish his memories son, Johnathan (Tiarra) Goins; daughter, Antjuanette Church; granddaughters, Gabrielle Y. Goins and Zariyah L. Goins (arriving soon); siblings, Garland Church, Jr., Mark Church, Peter Church and Melanie (Delmar) Coleman and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; special friends, Carla Petty, Karen Davis, Pam Easley and Gifford Moss.
