John Wayne Mitchell, 65, of Columbus, Ohio transitioned from this life unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
John was born on January 9, 1959 in Fayetteville, WV.

John was a graduate of Fayetteville High School and retired from Marysville Correctional Facility and previously
taught at Rick Moore Academy (karate school). He currently had his own Lawn Care Service, LLC. John was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. He had a kind and empathetic heart, always concerned for the well-being of others. He will be missed by the countless lives he blessed and inspired by his willingness to care for and serve others. John loved his dog (Dude).

John was preceded in death by his parents, Mercedes Mitchell-Strum (mother), Henry Cornelius Jones (father); maternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Summerville; sisters, Allean Strum, Ella Mae Jones, Irene Lane, Henrietta Acklin, Linda Jones; brothers, Johnny Jones, and Robert Jones; grandson, Allen Shermon Wright II, Julia “Kim” Wright (mother of his sons), Lawrence “Buster” Gray (favorite uncle) and Kim Gray (special cousin).

John is survived by his sons, Allen Wright and Sjon Wright; siblings, Andrew Strum, Alberta Matthews, Henry Guy Jones, Essic Jones, Charles Jones, Brenda Maze and Margaret (Ann) Jones; step-children, Asahel Gordon, Shamiah Gordon, Aaron Gordon, Amariah Gordon; grandchildren, Sjon Wright, Shamon Wright, Breanna Gibson, Charles Gibson, Sr., Maki Riley, Jordan Harrison; great-Grandchildren, Allen Zymere Wright, Amyla Wright, Ayden Wright, Aubrey Wright, Amir Gibson, Brielle Hansard, Terry Hansard, Lanaya Gibson, December Gibson, Charles Gibson, Jr. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, friends and his best friend, Tony Booker.
