Margaret Ann Sims, fondly known as Mitze, peacefully passed away on November 7, 2023, at Mt. Carmel St. Anns Hospital in Westerville, OH. She was born on September 17, 1949, in Steubenville, OH, to Margaret and Robert Sims Sr. Mitze’s legacy will be remembered with great love and cherished forever.
Mitze’s journey of life was marked by remarkable accomplishments and profound moments of joy. She dedicated an incredible 50 years of her professional career to UPMC, where she retired as a respected and admired member of the Risk Management team in 2019. Her exceptional commitment and dedication to her work in the medical center industry will be deeply missed by her colleagues and friends. She worked passionately as an Emergency Room Nurse, having the privilege to work with Freedom House, the first paramedics team developed in the Pittsburgh area. Making a positive impact on countless patients’ lives.
Mitze’s thirst for knowledge led her to obtain a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Pittsburgh and an associate degree. Prior to her journey in Risk Management, she worked passionately in a making a positive impact on countless patients’ lives.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mitze was a woman of adventure. She had an insatiable wanderlust, exploring the world through 35 breathtaking cruises. She found solace and beauty in the autumn season, often traveling to rustic scenic towns to enjoy marvelous dinners amidst picturesque landscapes. Mitze’s heart belonged to the Dallas Cowboys, a team she loyally supported, even though most of her family were fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns.
Mitze’s love knew no bounds, and she remained the cherished conduit of the Brown, Sims, Payne, Butler, Hines, Hart, Thornhill, and Hunt families. Her vivacious spirit, warmth, and generosity will be dearly missed by her siblings, Amelia (Allen) Brown, Roger A. (Tomasina) Sims, Gary B. (Lena) Sims, Charles K. (Roni) Sims, Gilbert L. Sims, Donna R. (Roy) Hunt, special nephew, Anson J. Brown and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
As we gather to celebrate Mitze’s remarkable journey, let us remember her infectious laughter, her unwavering strength, and her ability to bring joy to every room she entered. May her unparalleled zest for life inspire us to embrace every moment and cherish the memories we hold dear.

  8. I was saddened to hear that Mitze had passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I will always remember the years we worked together at UPMC and that she talked me into one of her 35 Cruises which was very enjoyable. Mitze was very kind to my children she made cookies for my son while he was in college.
    She took my daughter on trips with her to Steubenville. We had many good times together over the years.

  9. I met Mitze in 1983. We worked the night shift in the ER, became good friends, and even took a trip to New York City.

    For over 40yrs we shared in each other’s good times and bad times. We tried to solve the world’s problems on our rides home from work. We always had each other’s back. I’ll miss your laughter, your kindness and your love.
