Mr. Willie James Briggs

Willie J. Briggs, 87, transitioned this life on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at the Arbors of Mifflin Nursing Home, Mansfield, Ohio after an extended illness with his daughter, Paula by his side.

He was a very strong man and a great fighter. Mr. Briggs was born in Red Level, Alabama on September 23, 1936, to the late Willie and Lizze Mae Briggs. Willie J. was baptized at Mount Hermon Baptist Church and attended church services when he was able. He was a contractor specializing as an electrician. Willie J. was one of the founders of the Mansfield Road Runners in 1963. He really enjoyed Christmas Day and racing and riding his motorcycle with his friends. He received trophies and money from racing his motorcycle. Willie J. was also known as “Mr. Quick”.

With a ninth grade education, Willie J. accomplished Briggs Grocery, Briggs City Hall, Briggs Auto Reconditioning, Briggs Home Improvement, Briggs Demolition and also, The A Club.

Willie J leaves to cherish his memory, 3 daughters, Paula Briggs, Kenya Young and Monique Petty; 4 sons, William and Edward Robbins, R. David (Cheryl) Jones, Torry (Tonya) Robinson; sister, Lily (Mizzel) Lane; 3 brothers, Narvie (Mary) Briggs, Robert Briggs, and Ricky Jones; 27 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; friends of the Road Runners; nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Willie J. was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Briggs; sister, Sally Drakeford; 2 brothers, JC Briggs and Theodore Briggs; daughter, Shannon Young; and son, Don Jones.

Visitation 8:30 AM and Funeral Service 9:30 AM Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Mt. Hermon Baptist Church, 292 Charles St. Interment at Mansfield Cemetery Association.
