Ms. Otis Marie Hampton

Otis Marie Hampton, a beloved member of the Columbus community, peacefully passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 93. Born on November 14, 1930, in Holly Grove, Arkansas, Otis was the daughter of Palmore and Willie Mae Hampton.

From a young age, Otis possessed unwavering faith and accepted Christ into her life. She dedicated her time and energy to Trinity Baptist Church, where she became an integral part of the congregation. Otis found joy in participating in the Major choir, Mass choir, Sunday school, and various church activities.

Following her move to Columbus, Ohio, in 1949, Otis began her professional journey. She worked at White Cross Hospital before embarking on a rewarding career at Western Electric, where she dedicated over 30 years of her life. Even after retiring, Otis pursued her entrepreneurial spirit and became a successful vendor of church wear, African attire, and accessories.

Otis Hampton will always be remembered for her generosity and thoughtfulness. She firmly believed in the power of giving and often said, “You can’t beat God giving!” Her warm and engaging personality led her to establish lasting friendships with countless individuals, both in her business endeavors and personal life.

In her free time, Otis enjoyed shopping, cooking, and was renowned for her mouthwatering dishes, particularly her famous potato salad, greens, and delectable chicken salad. Above all, Otis had an unwavering love for the Lord, her church, and her family. Her devotion and affection for her only child, Michael Keith Hampton, were immeasurable and remained unwavering until her last breath.

Sister Hampton was preceded in death by her parents and her 13 siblings.

Otis is survived by her son, Michael Keith Hampton, and her special son adopted by love, Chuck Eubanks. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, as well as grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish her memory.

Visitation 11:00am and Home Going Service 12:00 noon Saturday December 2, 2023 at Trinity Baptist Church, 461 St Clair Ave, Columbus, Ohio 43203.

Otis Hampton’s life was one of love, faith, and giving. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory continue to inspire and uplift us all.
