Stephanie Stevens

With heavy hearts we bid farewell to our beloved Stephanie J. Stevens, who departed from the world too soon. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. A 1996 graduate of Independence High School. After High school. she graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Sports Management. She connected with so many, in the Athens and Columbus community.

Stephanie was a saved woman of God who loved her church, Mt. Zion COGIC, where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, YWCC, Special Project Committee, Drill Team, The Youth Department and was a Choreographer. Stephanie worked for the Columbus City Schools for 18 years where she was an On Board Instructor, and a Supervisor the last two years. Stephanie was a former member of the Columbus Comets Football Team.

As a grandmother, she was affectionately known as “Coco”. She was the embodiment of warmth and kindness, showering her granddaughter, Jasmine Gordon with love. As an aunt, she was a source of care and inspiration to Shardez Mock and Mark Perdue III. As a friend, she was a pillar of support and understanding. Her best friend Dionna Hannah will attest to the joy and comfort, that her presence brought to all who were fortunate enough to know her. The bonus parents, Paul and Phyllis Kelly, bonus grandma, Lady Brenda Baldwin and Mother Cunningham definitely had a hand in instilling religious values, and the importance of family values in her.

Stephanie was preceded in death by Doris Hairston (grandmother), Richard Shaw (uncle) and Monique Davis (goddaughter).

Though she may be gone from our sight, her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched. She was a guiding light in times of darkness. It is now her time to rest. Stephanie, know that you are dearly loved and deeply missed unconditionally. Love and wisdom that will be cherished for generations to come.

As a mother, her unwavering love and devotion knew no bounds. She guided her son Dallas Gordon with grace and compassion. She instilled in him the value of integrity and resilience. Stephanie was a wonderful godmother to Monique Davis, Tontalia Wall and Javon Wall. As a daughter, she was a beacon of strength and support. Her love for her parents, Janet Shaw-Brooks and Mattnew Stevens was unmatched and shined brightly through every act of kindness and selflessness.

As a sister, she was a source of laughter and companionship. Her bond with her siblings, Sandra (David) Stevens-Hairston, Ebony Brooks, Tracey Stevens and her Godsisters, Tania (Aurthur) Washington and Tina Alston was a testament to the enduring power of family.
