Carrie Mae Fitz, lovingly called “Carrie Mae”, was born on February 8, 1933, in Tallahassee, Florida to the late James Gainous Sr. and Hester Brown Gainous. She passed from this life on July 24, 2021, in Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her loving and caring family.

Carrie Mae graduated from Lincoln High School and attended FAMU. She was a retiree from the Upper Arlington School System. Carrie Mae gave her life to the Lord at a very early age. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church while living in Columbus, Ohio and when she moved back to Tallahassee, Florida she joined Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. Carrie Mae also loved traveling, crocheting, having fun and enjoying life.

Carrie Mae is preceded in death by brother Edgar “Mack” Gainous.

Carrie Mae leaves to cherish her memory, husband, James C. Fitz of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Jernica Fitz of Columbus, Ohio; one sister, Irene White of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, James Gainous Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, Aaron Dunlap, Eric Hinton, Mikal Kerr, Sabrina Fitz, Quincy Cody, and Ebony Fitz-Cody; five great grandchildren, JaVion Dunlap, Jayon Dunlap, Ja’Niyah Fitz, London Hammond, and Mason Hammond; and a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives, and friends.

Visitation 10:00am and Funeral 11:00am Monday, August 2, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
