Denise Gwen (Smith) Lawson, at 61 years of age, left this world and transitioned to her heavenly home with Jesus Christ on Friday, June 24, 2022. Denise was born to Freddie and Erma Lee Smith at Grant Hospital in Columbus, OH. Denise was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost at the age of 16 and is described by our mother as her “spiritual child”.
Denise worked in the healthcare field most of her adult life. She lived the majority of her early years in Piqua then moved to Columbus, where she met and joined lives with her best friend, Ricky Scott Lawson, with whom she shared 38 years of marriage.
Denise is preceded in death by her infant son, James Scott Lawson; half-sister, Estella Jean Smith, and half-brother, Freddie Smith, Jr.
Denise leaves to cherish her memory, parents, Freddie and Erma Lee Smith; four children, Nathan LaDaniel (Stephanie) Smith of Zanesville, Dashawn Maurice Smith of Cambridge, Christina LaNell Lawson of Columbus, and Uhara Nicole Lawson of Cleveland; siblings, Todd Jeffrey Smith of Columbus, Ivan Jay Smith, Sr. of Zanesville, Tina Smith-Anderson of Pickerington, and Dawn Marie Smith of Columbus; 16 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Denise played a big part in each of our lives and will be deeply missed.
Visitation 12:00pm and Funeral 1:00pm Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Grace Apostolic Church, 1743 E. Lakeview Ave.
