Jamel William Kendrick, the four-pound miracle baby, was born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 23, 1988. He was taken from us too soon by a senseless accident on April 15, 2024. Jamel gave his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church. Jamel was wise beyond his years, even being spotlighted in the Columbus Dispatch for his selflessness and compassion. Later, Jamel graduated from Northland High School in 2007, where he excelled in football. He loved having his family in the stands cheering him on. Jamel asked to attend every football camp he could, and when he was not doing that, he would spend summers in Atlanta, Georgia, with his Aunt Dee-Dee. Jamel loved cars so much that he attended Lincoln School of Technology in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he studied collision repair.

Jamel joined the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Local 200, in 2019 and began training to become a carpenter. He excelled as a skilled Construction Carpenter and was on the path to becoming a Journeyman with only 2 classes left to accomplish his goal. Jamel was held in high esteem by his cohorts and was selected to attend a leadership conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, to represent the local UBC. He was nominated to the National Society of Leadership and Success as a successful student at Cuyahoga Community College. Jamel was passionate about his career and developed close ties and relationships with his fellow construction workers, who were very fond of him as well. People from all different trades on the construction sites enjoyed his consistent upbeat and jovial energy.

For 14 years, Jamel was in a loving and committed relationship with his soulmate, Kim. They have been inseparable and supportive of each other and their families over the years. Throughout their relationship, Jamel and Kim enjoyed traveling, trying new adventures, and spending time with their families. Jamel was particularly in love with their granddaughter, Khamari, who referred to him as “PapPap,” he affectionately referred to her as “Toots.” They had a very sweet and special relationship, and she was a sparkle in his eyes.

Jamel is preceded in death by grandmothers Barbara Kendrick and Dorothy Palmer, great-grandmother Elizabeth “Lizzie” Grier, grandfathers William Kendrick Sr. and Harold Palmer, mother-in-law; Pearl Corbitt, uncle Darrell Ragland, great aunt Toni Grier, and great uncles; David Grier and Norman “Hop” Gilstrap and, special cousin/uncle Dennis Grier.

Jamel is survived by his soulmate, Kimberley Corbitt, Mothers; Francene Palmer, and Denise Kendrick, granddaughter Khamari “Toots” Hale (parents Dimonde and Tiffany Hale), brothers; Jay Kendrick, and Kevon Fallins, special cousin/uncle Kipp (Robin) Grier, and a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Grier, Kendrick, Ragland and Palmer families. Jamel will be missed by all who loved him.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Funeral Service 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2024 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1015 Chambers Road.
