Michael Phillip Greene, born on May 30, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, to Earl Greene and Rebecca Green-Wynn, passed away on February 14, 2024, at his home in Columbus, Ohio.

From his early years, Michael’s mother imparted lessons about the nature of God, fostering a profound personal connection with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Michael diligently expressed his prayers in writing each day, cultivating a wholesome
relationship with God that endured steadfastly throughout his life.

Known affectionately as “JoJo” to those who encountered his vibrant spirit in Charleston or Oberlin and as “Michael” to those in Columbus or L.A., his warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence was a beacon of love and care, his heart expansive and his spirit generous.

Michael’s culinary skills were legendary, especially when it came to his signature mac and cheese dish. A master chef in the kitchen, he delighted family and friends with Sunday and holiday meals. Beyond the kitchen, Michael’s intellect shone brightly. He was curious about everything and had a knack for using eloquent language. You were always guaranteed to learn at least one new word through his letters and conversations.

An artist at heart, Michael adorned his home with his captivating artwork and photographs of family and friends, showcasing his keen eye for beauty and creativity. His passion for the arts left a visual legacy of his artistic soul. Michael attended Oberlin High School in Ohio and pursued higher education at Talladega College in Alabama, where he studied Sociology, nurturing his curiosity about society and human behavior. His quest for knowledge and understanding shaped his worldview and fueled his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those he encountered.

From coast to coast, Michael made his mark in the various cities he called home and touched the lives of many with his kindness, wisdom, and love. Michael leaves behind a legacy of love and family. He is preceded in passing by his mother and father, stepbrother Sydney Wynn Jr., and sister-in-Law Mary Wynn-Mayle. He is survived by his sons Andrew and Sean, daughter Ebony, granddaughter Ashley, grandsons Sean, Phillip, and Jerome, great-grandsons Cameron and CJ, and many nieces and nephews. Though he may have left this world, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all fortunate to know him.

In remembrance of Michael’s remarkable life, let us cherish the memories we shared and honor his legacy by embodying the same love, kindness, and passion for life that he so beautifully exemplified.

Rest in heavenly peace, dear Michael, Father, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend. You will be forever loved and remembered.

  9. Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Uncle Mike, or came into his presence, felt his unconditional love! He paid attention, effortlessly lifted your spirits up if needed, and always made you feel like the most special person in the whole world! I always thought this was exclusive to me (because I was his favorite and most loved nephew, ha ha)! Well, that’s what it felt like being with him, always. I grew up, and learned that so many others were lucky enough to have that same or similar experience that I did – this is just how he was with so many people he cared about! His loveliness and kindness was never ending. That is of course unless you were on his bad side, which you would want to be!

I’ll always remember how you used to say “Saa Laa Maa Beese”, and we would die cracking up laughing! Love and miss you Uncle Mike!!

Drew, you are in my prayers, you know i love you. Anything you need cuz!
