Larry Walker, a beloved member of the community, passed away on August 16, 2023, at the age of 74. Born on May 5, 1949, in Laurel, MS, Larry was a cherished husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Larry spent his early years in Columbus, OH, where he built a fulfilling life with his loved ones. As a hardworking laborer in the factory industry, Larry dedicated his time and efforts to his work at Union Tools; Larry also worked at Columbus State University. His commitment and dedication were commendable, leaving a lasting impact on all those he worked alongside.

Outside of work, Larry found solace in the quiet moments spent fishing. Whether casting his line in a serene lake or enjoying the thrill of reeling in a catch, Larry embraced the joys of nature and the peace it brought him. He treasured every fishing trip, creating lifelong memories with family and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his grandson Josiah “JoJo” and brother, Robert Earl Walker.

Larry is survived by his loving wife, Doris Rhodes, who stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they built a strong and nurturing partnership that served as an inspiration to all. Larry’s children, Stacy Hillie, William Hillie, Omeka Gavin, Tomiko Rhodes, Keyoschia Rhodes, and Bridgett Rhodes, were his pride and joy. He loved them deeply and encouraged them to pursue their dreams.

Larry’s family was an inherent part of his life, providing him with endless love and support. His father, D F Walker, and mother, Rose Walker, guided him with wisdom and instilled in him the values that shaped the man he became. Larry’s sister, Tammy (Mixon) Gamble, and brothers, Thomas Franklin and Victor Craig Walker, shared an unbreakable bond of siblingship that brought comfort and strength in difficult times. He is also survived by his other siblings James, Lexworth and Lytron Garner.

Throughout his journey, Larry created a legacy that extended to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Their presence brought immense joy to his life, leaving a lasting imprint on his heart. Larry’s memory will be cherished by his numerous family members and friends who held a special place in his life.

In honor of his remarkable life, a Family Viewing will be held at the Marlan Gary Funeral Home, The Chapel of Peace North 2500 Cleveland Ave.- On August 26, 2023, a Memorial Service will be held at the same venue at 2:00 pm, preceded by a Visitation at 1:00 pm. These events are an opportunity for loved ones to come together, share memories, and celebrate Larry’s vibrant spirit.

As we bid farewell to Larry Walker, let us remember the joy and love he brought into our lives. May his legacy inspire us to embrace each moment and cherish the connections we have with one another. In Larry’s memory, let us celebrate a life well-lived and honor the impact he had on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
