In Loving Memory of Rodney Benard Fanning

February 5, 1960 – January 20, 2024

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Rodney Benard Fanning, aged 63, who peacefully departed this world on January 20, 2024, at his home. Born on February 5, 1960, to the late Juanita Herans and Frank Wilkins Sr., Rodney was a cherished member of the Mansfield community.

A proud graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, Rodney dedicated many years of his life to the construction field, excelling as a Master Concrete Finisher. His commitment and skill left an indelible mark on his profession.

Rodney was a family man through and through. He found immense joy in spending time with his loved ones, especially his wife Lisa Fanning, his sons Shermar Fanning and Donta Waterhouse, and his daughter Patrice Cunningham. He was a doting grandfather to his nine grandchildren, bringing laughter and love into their lives.

Known for his vibrant personality, Rodney enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He was passionate about music, loved playing cards, and was an avid sports enthusiast, with the Dallas Cowboys holding a special place in his heart.

Rodney is survived by his siblings Mike Wilkins, Gregory (Evelyn) Herans, Clayton (Bonnie) Kemp, Shawn McDowell, Cherie (James) Bonham, Stephaine Herans, Shay Wilkins, and Monya McDowell. He is also remembered fondly by special nieces and nephews Marqutia Lloyd, Jasmine Herans, Demarques Herans, and numerous other relatives, including his special cousin Twyla Wilkins. Additionally, he leaves behind a circle of friends who were blessed to have him in their lives.

In addition to his parents, Rodney was preceded in death by his adopted parents Richard (Janie) Fanning, brothers Frank Wilkins Jr, Marvin Vincent Feagain, and stepfather Elijah Hearns.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Monday, February 5, 2024, starting at 12:00 PM, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM at Marlan J. Gary Funeral Home, Mansfield Chapel, 753 McPherson St. (formerly Williams Funeral Services).
