Robert Lester Taylor

Robert Taylor went home to be with the Lord after his battle with cancer, August 25, 2022. He peacefully passed away at home with his wife and his two daughters by his side.

Robert Taylor was born October 31, 1937, in Columbus, Ohio and was one of five children born to Hycel and Hattie Taylor.

Robert is preceded in death by his siblings Hycel B. Taylor (Buddy) Christine Willis, and Charlene DuBose. his daughter Narcella Perry (Jeff), Shirley Williams (Cookie).

Robert is an East High School graduate. He was honorably discharged from the United States Air Force in 1960. Robert retired from the State of Ohio Department of Youth Services in 1992.

Robert loved watching the Cincinnati Bengals play football every season. But his love of singing is what he enjoyed most. In his younger years he spent time touring with various groups as well as touring solo. And when he stopped performing his love of music never faltered, especially his love for classical music.

Robert married Etta, October 18, 1980, and with marrying her he knew that he had two daughters that we’re going to be depending on him, he definitely stepped up to the plate. He was a loving father to Leslie and Tammy. Tammy would say that he instilled the love of music in her. Her favorite thing to do when she was growing up was to lay in her bed and listen to him practice for a show. He also instilled in her a strong and independent nature as well as teaching her resilience and gave her confidence in who she is. Leslie would say that he was her hero. He was
always there with advice or just a listening ear. In doing that he learned who she was, but she also learned who he was it was then that he became more than a father to her but became her friend. Leslie knows that her dad always had the best advice, and she knows he thought she wasn’t listening, but she heard him. The one thing that Leslie will remember is that him saying he was proud of her was almost better than him saying he loved her.

Robert also leaves his daughter, Carmella Taylor, only granddaughter, Kennita Goins (Jonathan) and his two great grandchildren, Derrick Anthony Chapman and Gabriella Yvonne Goins, and his only remaining sibling sister, Naomi Ferguson (BeBe).

Those who knew Robert can find comfort in knowing that his spirit and his attitude remained positive and a lot of times there was laughter during his fight and that he knew the Lord so we will not be apart from him forever.
