Sadie Jean Esters, 92 years of age, was born from the union of Fannie Kate and Leonard Price on
August 25, 1931, in Danville, Virginia. Her birth name was Sally Emma Price. After the death of
her parents and, at the age of 2 she was adopted by her 2 nd Cousin (on her Father’s side)
Fletcher James Siddle and Conway Elizabeth (Davis) Siddle. (Her paternal grandmother and
Conway’s father were sister and brother.) She was renamed, Sadie Jean Siddle and was fondly
called, “Baby Sadie”, “Baby Jean”, or “Red”.

She attended and graduated from Stratton High School in Beckley, WV in 1948. After her
graduation she attended Bluefield State College Nursing Program for 2 years and many years
later attended the CETA (Community Employment Training Act) Program here in Columbus.
Her work history includes Beckley Hospital as a Student Nurse, the Marzetti Restaurant as a
Salad Preparer, Mt Carmel Hospital as a Nurses Aide for 4 years and retired after 18 years of
service from the Ohio Department of Transportation as a Engineering Clerk.

Sadie accepted Christ as a young teenager at Lilybrook Baptist Church (WV) and later became a
member of Tabernacle Baptist Church (formerly known as Gay Street Baptist Church) for over
61 years. During the early years she delivered food for the Boosters Club and she worked in the
Church Nursery and was a Sunday School Teacher.

She was married to the love of her life, Ezell Esters, Sr on November 8, 1952 and they shared
their lives together for 60 years. From that union she birthed 4 children, Roselle Remae, Barbra
Jean, Ezell Jr., and Osei Myron.

She loved going to the Movies on Friday nights and her true passion as most know was
“Shopping”. Some of us are “scarred” for life from the many hours spent in Lazarus Department
Store shopping with her. Ezell Sr., would often say, “She loves giving Uncle Lazarus her money”.
For the longest the kids thought they were related to them.

Sadie passed away on October 4, 2023 at 12:43 pm. Her beautiful smile and kind spirit will be
missed. She was preceded in death by her birth parents, Leonard and Fannie Price, and adopted
parents, Fletcher and Conway Siddle; husband, Ezell Esters, Sr.; brothers, Henry Price, Blue,
David Price, Charles Price; sisters, Waxie Anna (Joe) Harrison, Kate (Rufus) Jackson; son-in-law,
