IMG 0383

Jacqueline Marie Doughty, a woman of grace and dedication, peacefully passed away on September 21, 2023, at her residence in Columbus, OH, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on February 4, 1943, in Keystone, WV, she was the daughter of Josephine and Rodney Johnson Sr., and sister to Marva Booker, Carol Housie and Rodney Johnson Jr.

Jacqueline’s life was marked by numerous achievements and a lasting legacy. She showed early promise as a student, graduating from Central High School and later obtaining an Associate’s Degree from Park University. Her professional journey led her to become a highly respected manager at Lucent Technologies (AT&T), retiring after years of dedicated service.

Jackie’s deep-rooted faith was evident throughout her life, beginning at Mt. Hermon Missionary Baptist Church, where she joyfully offered her voice to the choir. She then embraced her role as the first lady of Second Baptist Church Delaware, Ohio and Macedonia Baptist Church Columbus, Ohio. She also served as a devoted member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. There, she extended her love and support to the Golden Agers and Yoke-Persons Ministry and was actively involved in the Baptist Ministers Wives and Ministers Widows Alliance Columbus, as well as Columbus Baptist Association, where she skillfully held the position of treasurer. Additionally, Jackie faithfully attended the Bible Study Fellowship Group for many years, displaying her unwavering commitment to her spiritual growth.

On November 20, 1962, Jacqueline married the love of her life, Pastor Grady E. Doughty Sr., and together, they celebrated 43 years of cherished marriage. Their union blessed them with two wonderful children, Grady E. Doughty Jr. and Sonya (Michael) Doughty-Adams, who held a special place in her heart. She also counted her grandchildren, Samaria Doughty-DeBerry and Isis DeBerry, among her greatest joys.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister Carol.

Apart from her immediate family, Jacqueline’s life touched the hearts of many. Her sister, Marva Booker, and nieces, Tracy (Bradford) Hance and Donita Coleman, shared a close bond with her. She cherished the relationships with her sisters-in-law, Dr. Rosie Doughty, Helen Doughty, Jean Doughty, and Yolanda (Carl) McDonald, and brothers-in-law, William K. Doughty and Mario Housie. Anna (Ike Sr.) Harper, a dear friend, and special daughter Dedria (Tyrone) Ried held a special place in her heart, as did her extensive network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends at Mt. Olivet and throughout the city.

Jacqueline’s vibrant spirit and passion for life were evident in her love for attending church functions, and most importantly, caring for those she held dear as well as shopping. A beacon of elegance and poise, she leaves behind a powerful legacy of love, faith, and dedication.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Jacqueline’s remarkable life Visitation 10:00am and Home Going Service 12:00 noon Thursday September 28, 2023, at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, 428 E. Main St. Entombment at Union Cemetery with her beloved husband Pastor Grady E. Doughty Sr.

Though she may no longer be with us physically, Jacqueline Marie Doughty will forever hold a treasured place in our hearts. Her legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire us all.

  5. LaFaye Brookins Honeysuckle

Mother Doughty was a bonus Mother to me. She watched me grow from a young 12-year-old accepting Christ and baptism by her loving husband and soulmate, Pastor Doughty, to adulthood, marriage, parenthood, and so much more. I grew up with her children, Grady and Sonya (Baby Sis) to this day. I can still hear her say, after service, “Faye, where is Sonya.” I always looked up to this beautiful woman of unmeasurable class and poise. I am grateful, so grateful to have been blessed to have you and your family in my life.

To Grady, may God cover you moving forward now and in the days ahead. To Sonya (Michael), and the girls, I will always be right by your side. Always know that Mom and Dad are now watching over YOU. I know my Mom is waiting at the Pearly Gates to greet Mother Doughty with Pastor Doughty. I love you guys. Mother Doughty will be truly missed. May God grant you peace and understanding.

Faye (Brookins) Honeysuckle, Christopher Honeysuckle, and Eugene Honeysuckle.

  6. To the Family, You have my deepest sympathy. It was a shock to hear about her passing. Sis Doughty was at Mt Hermon on the 3rd Sunday. She look so beautiful and classy that Sunday, I spoke to her and ask did she want me to usher her back to her seat during the service. But she politely said she would sit in the back. May the Lord comfort you all during this time of sorrow. God Bless!!

  7. Jackie was an outstanding person. She was my supervisor at Lucent Technologies and supported me in all my endeavors
