God came by on Sunday night and whispered in her ear and she accepted the call. She left this life from Adena Hospital in Chillicothe, Ohio on January 29, 2023.

Vickie was born and reared in Portsmouth, Ohio. She graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1980. She attended The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She became gainfully employed with Rosemount School for Girls, United Methodist Children’s Home, and finally the State Department of Youth Services. She retired from DYS due to health reasons of which she had 25 years of service. After retirement she worked part-time as an assistant teacher for Catholic Social Services. It was obvious she wanted and did work with troubled youth. She was a hard worker and very compassionate to her fellow man. She would do anything for anybody. She had a heart of gold.

Vickie was baptized April 17, 1972 In Portsmouth, Ohio by the late Bishop Q.L. Wilson at the Greater Emmanuel Church. She sang in the youth choir, the Sunbeams. She lead the song “I Don’t Know About You, but I’m Somebody.” That song was a testament to her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Dorothy A (Cobb) and Roscoe Tyler Sr., lifelong companion; William Samuels Jr., and special nephew; Julian Kennedy.

She leaves to mourn, her son; Isaiah Samuels and daughter; Dorothy Samuels both of Columbus, Ohio, three sisters; Kay Tyler and Wendy Tyler both of Columbus, Ohio and Kenya Green of Douglasville, Georgia, four brothers; Roscoe Tyler Jr., James Tyler and Michael (Missy) Tyler all of Columbus, Ohio and Joshua (Brittany) Tyler of Douglasville, Georgia, step mother; Gwendolyn Tyler of Douglasville, Georgia, special son; William Samuels III of Youngstown, Ohio and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

My Vickie I am going to miss you but I know you’re in a better place. My mind goes back to the days when you lived with me and the boys. They loved having their cousin there because everything they did they blamed it on her. We had some fun times. May the Peace and love of God embrace all of us. Love you my niece.

  3. When I think of Ms. Tyler I remember the times at Scioto, she was compassionate about the prisoners. She often spoke of her children and was such a caring parent. I will forever cherish the memories. Sending prayers out and my deepest condolences to Ms. Tyler’s family.
