Mrs. Gladys (Sherfield) Pace of Columbus, Ohio, passed away peacefully at age (99), on Thursday evening, January 21, 2021, at her residence after having lived a very fruitful life.

She was born August 6, 1921, in Griffin, (Spalding County), Georgia, a daughter of the late Benjamin and Ada (Bailey) Sherfield. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Gladys with her parents and siblings later moved to Cedartown, Georgia, where she was raised and received her formal education from East Point School in the East Point Community. She was the mother of one daughter, Jeanette (Sherfield) Pace.

Gladys married Lawrence Pace June 14, 1952, and eventually moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1953, where she has remained for the past 68 years. She worked and retired from The Ohio State University Food Services department.

Gladys was of the Baptist faith. She united and became a member of Triedstone Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully; she sang in the choir, worked in the kitchen, and attended Sunday school on a regularly basis until failing health.
Her leisure time hobbies included sewing and crocheting, which she truly enjoyed. Very family oriented, she always took pleasure in inviting the whole Pace, Sherfield, & Gibbs family to her home for special holidays family gatherings. To top it off, Gladys loved shopping and travel with Sue, especially if it meant a road trip to her hometown Cedartown, GA to visit family and friends.

In addition, to her parents: Benjamin and Ada (Bailey) Sherfield; Gladys was predeceased by her husband of 38 years: Lawrence Pace; one daughter: Jeanette (Sherfield) Pace, son-in-law: Albert Pace, III; grandson: Joseph Pace, great-grandson: Rodriquez Dukes. Brothers: King Sherfield, Benjamin “BH” Sherfield, Bruce Sherfield, Grant Sherfield. Sisters: Pettis (Sherfield) Gibbs, Estella (Sherfield) Ware, and Sally Willie (Sherfield) Strickland.

Survivors left to cherish her everlasting memories: God-daughter/niece/caregiver, Sue Brown Kendrick. Granddaughters: Gina (Pace) Alderson and Marcia Pace/caregiver; great-grandchildren: Shamika Flint, Christopher Pace, Erica Pace, Reginald Dukes, Jr. and Mason Moore; 13 great-great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

She will be laid to rest with her husband, Lawrence Pace, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, in the Green Lawn Cemetery, in Columbus, Ohio.

Public Visitation 10:30 AM and Private Funeral Service 12:00 PM Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Triedstone Bapitst Church, 858 E. 3rd. Ave. Mask and Social Distancing are required. Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery. Ministry of Comfort entrusted to MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.
