Huey Rivers Jr.

Rivers Jr.

Huey Rivers, Jr. was born to Ruth Elizabeth (Harris) and Huey Rivers on December 1, 1942 in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was ELEVATED to glory on Thursday, July 25, 2019.

Huey married Cynthia J. Elam on July 29 of 1995. The two met and married at Rhema Christian Center. Together, they traveled, served on the mission field, enjoyed going to movies, learning about gemstones and listening to music. Even in challenging times the two could be found sharing a laugh. The love this kindhearted man had for his wife was undeniable.

He graduated in 1961 from Chillicothe High School. He earned many certifications in marksmanship and military leadership. He studied martial arts under his brother, Sensi Michael Rivers and earned his Black Belt.

Huey served with the United States Marine Corps. He was proud to serve as the Post Master General where his unit was charged with delivering the mail to the Marines. He was such a prized football player that he was temporarily transferred from Vietnam back to Japan to represent the Marine Corps in a Divisional Championship game. Huey was Honorably Discharged from the Marine Corps as an E-5 Sergeant. He later served with the Army National Guard of Ohio and was Honorably Discharged as a Staff Sergeant in 1973.

Huey loved the Lord! He was a faithful member of Rhema Christian Center for 30 years, where he served as a teacher in Children of Destiny. He also taught family and friends at various home fellowships. Huey was humbly Commissioned by his church in the Majoring in Men ministry where Manhood and Christ-likeness are synonymous. The founder of The Joshua-David Ministries, Huey faithfully taught The Word of God both locally and in Dominican Republic under Hannah Ministries. Huey Enjoyed Every Aspect of life to the Fullest!

Even after suffering a major stroke that confined him to a wheelchair for the latter part of his life, Huey worshiped The Lord until the end. He didn’t complain about his condition, but instead regularly expressed his appreciation to those who aided him from day to day. Everyone knows his famous thumbs-up!

Huey was proceeded in death by his parents Ruth and Huey Rivers, Sr; his son, Jeffrey Stuart Cousins; and his brother, Michael D. Rivers. He will be missed and remembered by his wife, Cynthia J. Rivers; his sisters, Ruth Elaine Rhodes of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, Marilyn (Andrew) Prather of Germantown, Maryland, Karen (Larry) Scott of Columbus, Ohio; his brother, David (Brenda) Rivers of New Albany, Ohio; his sister-in-law, Sherrie Rivers of Westerville, Ohio; his in-laws, the Elam family of Troy, Ohio; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Dear Cindy: Today, as I was thinking about some of the gifted teachers that Eddie and I enjoyed and admired while we led the Children’s Ministry at Rhema, Huey, came to mind. He was the perfect balance of a man of God who could show the love of Christ while exemplifying the virtue of having a focused mind and disciplined spirit. We miss him, as we know that you do, also. It has been 3 years, but it seems like we just saw him with you in church! May the happy memories of years gone by, comfort you, today!
