James Curtis Fitz

James Curtis (J.C.) Fitz was born on July 17, 1932 in the Chaires Community in Tallahassee, Florida.  James was the thirteenth child born in this union to Nathaniel “Partner” and Dallie Mae Harris Fitz.  James transitioned into eternal rest on Saturday, September 4, 2021.

James confessed Christ as his personal savior at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church at an early age.  He was a faithful member of Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church until his health started to decline.

James was raised in the Chaires Community, where he graduated from the Old Lincoln High School, Class of 1950.  After J.C. graduated from high school, he married Carrie Mae Gainous in 1953.  In this union they were blessed with a daughter, Jernica Fitz.  J.C. joined the military, where he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and he served 8 years.  After 8 years of active service, J.C. relocated to Columbus, Ohio, and he remained active in the Army Reserve.  J.C. worked diligently for 12 years, where he was employed with the Ohio State University, in the Department of Anatomy; also he joined Merck Company in Columbus, Ohio as a Medical Shipping Clerk for 25 years.  In 1993 J.C. retired, and moved to Decatur, Georgia, and later moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and J.C. and Carrie relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 2020.  J.C. loved the outdoors, enjoyed spending time with family, and traveling. J.C. was a dependable, sharing, and giving person. He always wanted to make someone happy.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, child: Jernica Fitz of Columbus, OH; grandchildren: Aaron Dunlap, Mikal Kerr, Sabrina Fitz, Eric Hinton, Quincy Cody, and Ebony Fitz-Cody all of Columbus, OH; brother: Jimmy Fitz (Grace) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sister-in-laws: Grace Fitz of Tallahassee, FL and Irene White of Columbus, OH; brother-in-law: James Gainous of Columbus, OH; devoted niece: Lynn Weaver of Columbus, OH and devoted great-niece: Varonia Walker (Terrace) of Tallahassee, FL, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

James preceded in death by his wife: Carrie Fitz; father and mother: Nathaniel and Dallie Mae Fitz Sr.; siblings: 6 brothers and 7 sisters: Herbert Fitz, John Fitz, Herman Fitz, Nathaniel Fitz Jr., Johnny Fitz Sr., Soloman Fitz, Beatrice Fitz, Edith Fitz, Verdi Fitz, Mae Eva Fitz-Reese, Edna Fitz-Burke, Geneva Craig, and Lillian Wilson

 

 

 

 

 

 

Private Visitation 10:00 AM and Private Funeral Service 11:00 AM Thursday, September 16, 2021 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E.
