John D. Stewart

main

John Stewart was born on October 23, 1935, to the parents of John and Ruth Marie Stewart. He was the oldest of 10 siblings. John departed this life on Friday, November 3, 2023, at The Laurels of Worthington Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.

John worked in construction and carpentry throughout his life along with other various jobs.

He married his sweetheart, Juanita, and they raised 4 children, Roberta, Markeita, Linda and John, Jr. (known as JJ). John enjoyed watching cowboy shows, fishing programs, listening to old school music, and telling stories related to his past of how things were. Some stories were funny, some serious, but all in all he loved to tell his stories, with plenty to say.

John eventually remarried to Betty, and they were together for a number of good years. Fishing was a great part of his life as he and many family members would travel to Canada 2 to 3 times a year with their big trucks and boats, eager to have good times; taking in the beautiful scenes of nature of outdoor life. He was so happy and content during these grand fishing events that took place.

As health conditions changed in his body, John still kept up his good wits as much as he could. His son in law, Earl, spent quality time with him, talking to him, bringing him food, watching movies, even getting him out for occasional rides, and always encouraging John when he did not feel well. They were like best buddies, (Actually a blessing of God!)

John had a special grand daughter, Betty Boo, who also shared in watching over him even before he became ill. They both had a unique bond throughout life, sharing the same birthday. A true bond that will always be remembered. Our Pastor’s, our families and friends all took part in comforting John by praying, holding his hand, speaking to him softly or by just rubbing his back.

John recently gave his life to Jesus, acknowledging that Jesus is Lord and accepting him into his heart. Thank you, Lord.

John is preceded in death by his son, John Stewart, Jr.; parents, John Stewart, Sr. and Ruth Marie Stewart; brothers, James, David Dean, and Edward Stewart; sisters, Saundra, Jacqueline & Gloria Stewart; A very special aunt, Gertrude Cousins, 3 special women, Juanita Stewart, Betty Stewart, and Carlyn Davis.

John is survived by sisters, Joyce A. (Stewart) Smith, Josephine (Stewart) Latimer, Carol Stewart; daughters, Roberta Stewart, Markeita Stewart (Earl) Linda Stewart (Jerome); A host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
