Larry D. Cathcart

Larry Cathcart

Larry Douglas Cathcart, Sr., was born at University Hospital on October 7, 1949 to Leroy and Dosena Cathcart.

He grew up in the Linden Community and attended Linden McKinley High School. He was a lifeguard and avid swimmer, teaching his brothers and sisters how to swim. His performance and passion for basketball endured throughout his life, as he played in and coached league after league, including several Gus Macker tournaments and Old Timers leagues.

Larry worked as a Campaign Manager for the United Way but eventually left the corporate life to start his own business. At first, Larry worked for Sun Holiday Pools as a Service Technician. Once Sun Holiday closed, leaving a trail of disgruntled customers behind, Larry and his crew came in to make things right. As a result, Larry established a customer base for a new business. More than twenty years later, L&J Pools Services has a loyal customer base with pools surrounding a 100-mile radius of the Columbus Metro area.

Larry was a loving husband, attentive brother, caring father, and cherished grandfather who loved baking his mother’s Christmas cookie recipe every year. His cookies were the highlight of everyone’s Christmas. Larry also loved to travel, especially with his family, as they enjoyed an annual trip to Las Vegas around his birthday.

Larry is survived by his wife; Joyce Cathcart, son; Larry Jr., daughters; Mia (Rozonno) McGhee, April Hancock, Lisa Cathcart, stepdaughters; Tammy (Ambrose) Moses, Marcia Chapman, brothers; James (Wanda) Cathcart, Leon (Katasha) Cathcart, Victor Cathcart, sisters; Sharon (Gary) O’Neil, Darlene (Michael) Reeves and Teresa (Ann) Hill, special friends of the family; John (Jonda) Adams, Darrell Sutton, Alfred Dunning, Dennis Hogg, Nora White; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by parents; Leroy and Dosena Cathcart,sister; Louise Cathcart, and brothers;
Arthur and Louis Cathcart.
