Mother Eunice Carter, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away on September 11, 2023, at Avita Hospital in Ontario, at the age of 88. Born on June 14, 1935, in Brownsville, Tennessee, Eunice was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many.

Eunice graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and retired from Hartman Electric, where she made valuable contributions over the years. Eunice’s strong work ethic and commitment to her job earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

Outside of her profession, Eunice was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church for over 60 years, actively serving on The Mothers Board and previously on the Usher Board. Her unwavering faith and deep-rooted spirituality were an inspiration to those around her. Eunice found solace in the pages of novels, embracing a love for reading of all genres. Additionally, she found joy in following her favorite soap operas and watching exciting tennis matches.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordan Bowers and Maggie Wison Hunt. and former husband, Joseph Nathan Carter

Mother Eunice was a cherished matriarch and leaves behind a legacy of love. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Lorie) Carter and Woodrow (Audry) Carter. Her memory will forever be treasured in the hearts of her adoring grandchildren: Demetrious (Stacey) McClain, Brandon Carter, Maurice (Sharron) Carter, and Katelyn (Colleen) Carter, her great-grandchildren: D’Eandre, D’Eyon, D’Marian, D’Cario, Myleah, Niylah, Aaliyah, Vinceno, and Bradley; goddaughter, Pastor Renea Collins and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends on Monday September 18, 2023 1:00 – 5:00 pm at 500 Parkview Street #2, Mansfield, Ohio.

The family will receive relatives and friends for a visitation at Shiloh Baptist Church in Mansfield on Tuesday September 19, 2023, starting at 10:00 am. A celebratory funeral service honoring Eunice’s life will follow at 11:00 am in the sanctuary of Shiloh Baptist Church followed by Burial at Mansfield Cemetery.

Mother Eunice Carter’s spirit will live on through the memories shared with family and friends. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strong direction, her kind heart, her love for literature and tennis and being a mother to many in the community. May she rest in eternal peace, knowing the significant impact she had on the lives around her.

During our younger years we spent time in trying to make our community more diverse and she was very involved in Black Women United.
