Mrs. Mary Lou Rozelle

Mary Lou Rozelle, born July 1, 1941, in Columbus, Ohio to William I and Mary E Bell. Mary Lou passed peacefully surrounded by loving family on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at OSU Hospital. Mary Lou Rozelle married Reginald Rozelle on October 21, 1978. They are the parents of three children. Mary Lou grew up in Flytown, moved to the Hilltop in 1959 and graduated from Central High School in 1960.

She was a member of Friendship Missionary Baptist for 45 years. Where she was active in the church, Usher Ministry, an avid Vacation Bible School Worker, and a strong supporter of the Youth including Past President of the Smith Simmons Scholarship Ministry. She was affectionately known as the Neighborhood Mom to many who encountered her. She worked and retired from The Ohio State University for 29 years. Mary Lou enjoyed crocheting and reading where she was a member of a Book Club. She loved collecting black Santa Clauses.

She was preceded in death by her parents William and Mary E. Bell; her brothers William “Bill” Bell, George Michael Bell; Sisters, Suzanne Bell, Virginia Smith, and Carolyn Pruitt; In-Laws Joyce and Eubanks Rozelle; Sister-In-Laws Penny Bell and Berna Lou Bell.

Mary Lou, leaves to cherish her memories, loving husband Reginald Rozelle, son Timothy Taylor, daughters Stephanie and Theresa Taylor; three grandchildren Timothy Taylor, CA; Lamar (Marcela) Taylor, CA; and Janiero (Ali) Thiam, MD; six great grandchildren Noah Taylor, Levaeh Taylor, Suleymane Thiam, Afiyah Thiam, Serenity Grace Taylor, Harper Isabella Taylor. Niece Debra Smith, Nephews Curtis Smith (Patrick Raymond), Kevin (Donna) Bell, Nathan Bell. Sister-In-Law Roberta Rozelle, Aunts Linda (Samuel) Freeman, Cheryl Nichols, special cousins David and Krisdon Lynch and special friend Carol Godbolt; many cousins, great nieces, great nephews, god- grandchildren, and god-great grandchildren, as well as a host of wonderful friends who became family.

Visitation 10:00 AM and Memorial Service 11:00 AM Saturday, October 29, 2022, at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1775 W. Broad Street.

  9. I remember Mary Lou so well, when she was working in Arps Hall, College of Education. She was so helpful in giving me information about my classes and procedures that were necessary to get my Master’s Degree.

  10. I worked with Mary Lou in the College of Education. She was always so cheerful with a ready smile. She talked about having to walk past the “circus house” and the Ohio pen on the way home from school. I loved hearing her stories.
