Ms. Lee Bertha Brown

Lee Bertha Brown 73, long-time resident of Mansfield, Ohio passed away on April 26, 2023. She was born in Sunflower, Mississippi on November 9, 1949, to J.C and Annie B. (Tucker) McCray.

Bertha was one of ten children. Her father was a sharecropper who moved his family north to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1959.
Bertha graduated from Battle Creek Central High School, class of 1968.

She worked at Shrank’s Cafeteria after high school then the community hospital in Battle Creek. In 1972, Bertha began working for General Motors in Kalamazoo, Michigan. She relocated to Mansfield, Ohio to work at the Ontario location in 1993. Retiring after 33.9 years of working in the automobile industry in 2006.

She enjoyed reading, watching “Westerns” because they reminded her of her father, cooking, traveling with her sister Ida and spending time with her family. Her bright smile, laugh and sense of humor will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Bertha is survived by her son; Wesley (Crystal), daughter; Ashley (Antonio), brother; Archie McCray (Berrien, Springs, MI), sisters; Mary Moore, Refranza Robertson, Ida B. McCray and Melinda McCray all of Battle Creek, Michigan, six grandchildren; Chelsea Brown (Battle Creek), Chasatea Brown,
Wesley T. Brown, Leighaja Brown, Cardae Brown and Aziyah Mcknight, three great grandchildren; DeAire Banks, DaMarri Banks and Daxton Artis all of Battle Creek, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Robert McCray Sr., W.C McCray, Walter McCray, sister; Katie Small, nephews; Archie McCray Jr., Eddie McCray, niece; JoAnn McCray, grandson; Kamren L. Brown all of Battle Creek, Michigan, and her faithful dog Sasha.

  6. I love you auntie. When I was at my worse and trying to come back from the pain and the anger, you always had my back. When moma left me it seemed like everything went to pieces with the family. You were a beautiful woman and aunt. You were with me from Georgetown apt to brookside. I remember you picking me and Faye up. First time I heard Barry white new album and I called my grandfather 11 or 12 at night to bring me cupcake papers in his brown impala. I love you always. You always made me feel good enough
