Mother Annie Ruth Chapman, 83, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2019 in the comfort of her home. Ruth was born on June 9, 1936 in Salem, AL to Sam Davis, Sr. and Ella Bell Davis, she was the tenth child out of twelve.

Ruth graduated from Columbus Central High School at the age of sixteen in 1952. She married the love of her life Wendell F Chapman Sr. (Deceased) seventeen years with two children Wendell F Chapman Jr. and Lisa L Chapman. After high school Ruth worked with her brothers Jesse Davis and Bishop C.M. Davis Sr. perfecting her culinary skills and growing their catering business. Ruth was a head chef at Saint Ann’s Hospital, where she retired after thirty years.

She worked diligently at Shady Grove Baptist Church of Christ under leadership of Bishop C.M. Davis Sr. She loved her family but most importantly she loved the Lord and would do anything to share the gospel. Some positions she held were Church Secretary, Deaconess, and Sunday School Teacher. Over the years Mothers servitude never diminished. Mother continued to walk in her callings and served in many positions under Pastor Abbington at New Jerusalem Church. In September 2002 New Life Worship Center became Mothers Church home. Under the Pastoral care of Dr. J.B. Hooper.

Ruth dedicated her remaining years believing on the Word of God, loving her Pastor and serving on several committees; Fund Raiser Committee, Church Beautifying Committee, Pastor Aide Committee. She was also a member of the Mothers Board, Mothers Board Senior Choir, Women’s Day Committee, Assistant School Teacher, and Sunday School Teacher.

She is proceeded in death by Lisa Chapman (daughter), Sam Davis, Sr. (Father), Ella Bell Davis (Mother), (Siblings) E.B. Davis, Rev Willie B Davis Sr., Catherine Blackmon, Elijah Davis, Sam Davis Jr., Bishop C.M. Davis Sr., Mary Lois Paschal, Jesse Davis, Annie Pearl Jones, Henry Davis.
Mother Chapman leaves behind to cherish her memories her son, Wendell F (Dianna) Chapman Jr., brother Willie C (Norma) Davis, as well as many beloved grand children, great grand children, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation 12:00pm and Funeral 1:00pm Saturday, July 27, 2019 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE NORTH, 2500 Cleveland Ave.

Interment at Eastlawn Cemetery.
