Starling Alexander Anderson, also known as “Big Al”, was born June 18, 1969 in Man, West Virginia to Starling Alexander Johnson and Ona May Anderson.

Al moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1971 and graduated from a Columbus Public School on June 2, 1988. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Andrea and three daughters. He loved spending time with family and friends. He took pleasure in writing and rapping. He had his own mixtape, “Big Al’s Big Score”. Everybody that knew Al knew that he had a passion for the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Knicks. And that he knew how to have a good time! He departed from this earthly life on November 30, 2020 at the age of 51.

Al was a dedicated husband, loving father, caring son, big brother, cool uncle, fun cousin, and a good friend.

Al is preceded in death by his great grandmother, Bertha Wilson; great aunt, Cleo Wilson; father- in-law, Audee Roger Caldwell; uncle, Jerry Anderson; and father, Starling Alexander Johnson.

Al leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Andrea; three daughters: Tommara, Aniyah, and Sage; mother, Ona May; mother-in-law, Mary Teresa Caldwell; sisters, Kacey, Faye (David) Evans, and Sahara Simon; brother, Curtis (Phyllis) Johnson; grandmother, Rosetta Anderson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

  2. Dear Andrea and Kids, The sound of Starling coming down the hall was always music to my ears: If Starling was in the house, all would be well! I called him countless times for help, and he always came through! Our little chats were delightful, and enlightening! We miss him terribly and grieve to think of what you all are going through. We will always remember and honor him at Mohun. May God be with you always and especially at this time!

    I am truly sorry for your loss. Starling was a Big brother to me, and an amazing coworker at Dominican Sisters of Peace. Every morning he love to drink coffee and he would make his rounds through the building and would always come by say good morning, make sure “we were good” as he would always say with a big smile. No matter what he was always there to help, and lend a helping hand. Starling will be missed so much by all of us, and you all are in my thoughts and prayers.

Starling was more than a coworker to us; he was truly a bright shining light; he had the ability to make anyone in his presence feel like the most important person in the world.
