The Patriarch of the Clinkscale Family, Mr. Edward Thomas Clinkscale, Sr., was born January 21, 1935 in Youngstown, Ohio, to John and Ida Lee Clinkscale.

He transitioned into eternal rest on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at the age of 88 after an extended illness.

Edward T. Clinkscale was employed by the U.S. Steel Company in Youngstown, Ohio. He was the first black operator and a top performer, breaking records for dumping railroad cars and not missing days of work. He retired after 30 years, but continued working for the U.S. Postal Service, and as an independent janitorial services contractor.

Mr. Clinkscale comes from a family of ministers and maintained a strong Christian faith. He was a member of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church in Youngstown, Ohio where he served as a trustee, member of the men’s choir, and the Brotherhood Club. One of his favorite motivational scriptures was Colossians 3:23-24 “Do your best and let God do the rest”.

He was a great storyteller and desired to become a writer.

Mr. Clinkscale’s love and dedication to his family was evident by the joy he found in their company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ida Lee Clinkscale; his siblings, Henry Clinkscale, Roscoe Clinkscale, Leroy Clinkscale, Naomi Parm; his wife Margaret J. Clinkscale who he loved dearly; his bonus son Gregory Wayne Croft, and his first wife, Lillie Taylor Clinkscale.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories that will be cherished forever by his family and friends.

He is survived by his six children, Edward (Shermanetta) Clinkscale Jr., Sherry (Alfred) Richards, Rose Clinkscale Weston, Lillie Clinkscale, Lonnie (Dawn) Clinkscale, and Elisa (Kenneth) Tate; his bonus children, Kimberly (Doni) Thornton, Gary (Adrienne) Croft; 12 grandchildren , Edward III, Chiffon, Samona, Ronnell, Tasha, Jovan, Jasmine, Jamaica, Joy, Felisha, Lonnette, Crystal; and a host of great, great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Words cannot convey the gratitude and appreciation for his granddaughter, Felisha (George) White, his home health care aid Ziporah Mbugua, and so many others who contributed to his daily care.
