Martha Black entered her Eternal Heavenly Reward on Saturday, October 28, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio. Her Sunrise was on July 17, 1937 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Gretha Jones; by her husband, Manual Black, Jr.; her grandson’s, CJ Jones and Michael Lynn Davis; her brother, Wellington (Meredith) Jones; her sister, Lee Etta Sanders; brother, Herbert (Elsie) Jones; sister, Willie Mary Jones; and her brother, John Earl (Pauline) Jones.

She leaves to Tremendously-miss her and to cherish her in memory, her son, Michael (Lisa K.) Jones and daughter, Lisa Jones. Her beloved grandchildren: Levone Jones, NaKiesha Nelson, Sade Davis, Dominique Nelson, Michelle Jones, Alisa Jones. Martha’s beloved great-grandchildren: Tayonna (Ghazi) Nunnally, Tationa Jones, Telia Jones, Trevion Jones, Tamyris Jones, Tertian Jones, Trinity Jones, Tehyah Jones, MyShawn Nelson, Kaisen LaMarr, Anthony Messiah McKee, Sa’mone Davis, Cherish Davis, Cali Davis, and Jayvon King Davis. Great-great granddaughter, Isla Nunnally. Her sisters: Clara Thigpen, Eva Nell Welch, Wilma (Ronald) Bradley. Her brothers: Claude L. (Theresa) Jones, Charles C. (Yvonne) Jones. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Special friend, Monica Jones.

Martha was born in Copiah County, Mississippi. She attended primary and junior high school in Hazlehurst Mississippi. She attended Chapel Hill Church with the family. During this time she accept Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.

In early 1950s, Martha moved to East Carroll, Louisiana with her grandmother, Willie Dora Ailes (aka) “Little Grand”. She attended and graduated from G. W. Griffin High School in Lake Providence, Louisiana. In 1952, her father moved the rest of the family to East Carroll, Louisiana.

In 1957, Martha moved to Columbus, Ohio with the family. In August she gave birth to her son Michael and three years later she gave birth to her daughter Lisa.

In early 1972, Martha married Manuel Black, Jr., and together they founded and owned the Magic Dura Clean Janitorial Company until Manual became ill and could no longer manage the company. Also, Martha worked for Riverside Hospital and retired in the 1980s.

In 1978, Martha became a grandmother to her first grandchild, Levone Jones. He was raised to be a wonderful young man and he and Cynthia gave her eight great-grandchildren that have been a MAJOR part of the TEAM of grandchildren and great-grandchildren that devoted themselves to provide loving care and support to Martha in her later years during her season of her greatest need for assistance.

In 1988, Martha became a member of World Harvest Church (WHC) of Columbus, Ohio where she attended faithfully until her health began to decline. Throughout her various hospital stays WHC leadership provided her faithful pastoral care.

In 2013, Martha moved into the perfect apartment home community near her two sisters to support her senior season of life. In 2015, after a serious health diagnosis and time spent in a skilled nursing facility, Martha needed home healthcare. Her family continued to support her througout her health journey.

She experienced amazing support from her family. We want to make sure you all know that we appreciate you for helping mom.

Martha loved her family so much. She instilled strong family values in her children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren, and other relatives. Our entire family served her well until the day that she entered her Eternal Heavenly Reward.

Visitation 11:00 AM and Funeral Service 12:00 PM Monday, November 6, 2023 at MARLAN J. GARY FUNERAL HOME, THE CHAPEL OF PEACE EAST, 5456 E. Livingston Ave. (one block east of Noe Bixby, turn North on Lonsdale Rd.).

Interment at Green Lawn Cemetery.
